Aqueous
Ozone for Retail Applications
Providing
Multiple Solutions for
Supermarkets and Food Retailers
Current
technology has harnessed the purification power of ozone in a highly
mobile, OSHA safe, FDA approvedapplication. Mobile Ozonated Water
(MOW) solutions can provide supermarket and other retail food operators
a new tool for food safety and perishable spoilage reduction.
An
Effective Food Safety Agent
Sanitize
perishable work and display areas without using harsh chemicals.
Mobile Ozonated Water Systems eliminate the need for harsh chemicals
used today to sanitize perishable work and display areas. With the
mobility of MOW's, you can sanitize all of your perishable departments
— floral, deli, meat, produce, seafood, juice bars, etc.
A
Unique Means to Enhance the Appearance and Extend the Shelf-Life
of Your Perishables
Extensive
testing has proven that costly perishable spoilage-reduction is
now possible with MOWs. Utilizing the natural decontaminant deactivation
properties of ozone, the MOW can easily apply ozonated water directly
on many fruits and vegetables. Further, ozone is a strong oxidant,
leaving no residue or harmful by-products, and destroys a wide spectrum
of organisms. Even at low levels (less than one part per million),
ozone is very effective at destroying or inhibiting microbial growth
when applied directly to the product. Results of extensive testing
are available. Among the products that can be treated in-store are:
fruits and vegetables, shrimp and other shellfish, and floral.
An
Efficient Way to Reduce Perishable Shrinkage & Enhance Gross
Profit
Just
one example, store controlled produce shrinkage alone has been estimated
at 5% of produce sales. The following illustrates how shrink reduction
means new dolloars to the bottom line.
100-store
chain experiences more than $450,000 in recoverablegross
profit by reducing produce shrink from 5% to 1%.

What
does the FDA say about Ozone as a sanitation and shelf-life enhancement
agent?
As
a Sanitation Agent, Ozone…
-
Is an effective antimicrobial agent
-
Is stable at high temperatures
-
Has good penetration ability
-
Decomposes to non-toxic by-products
As a Shelf Life Enhancement Agent…
“Treatment
with ozonated water can extend the shelf life of apples, grapes,
oranges, pears, raspberries and strawberries by reducing microbial
populations and by oxidation of ethylene to retard ripening.”
